Our Legacy

In 1957, George and Sadie Doyle established the Drs. Inlet Civic League, laying the foundation for a community organization that would serve local residents for generations. Two years later, in 1959, they provided both the land and the structure that became the League’s permanent home.

From the beginning, the property and building remained privately owned, with the Doyle family continuing to oversee its care and stewardship. The Civic League operated as a nonprofit organization, guided by a board of members responsible for decisions related to its use, upkeep, and repairs.

Over time, participation declined, and the building saw fewer renters and community activities. As the years passed, the structure’s needs grew—eventually requiring upgrades far beyond what routine maintenance could address. By 2025, it was clear that a major transformation was necessary to restore the building’s usefulness and appeal.

What followed was a 14‑month, top-to-bottom cosmetic renovation—an extensive and costly effort to bring the aging facility up to modern standards. The result is a complete reinvention of the space: the newly named Peoria Crossing Event Center, a revitalized venue designed to attract today’s renters and breathe new life into a historic community landmark.
